I bought it just in time for one week cruise to the Caribbean and got a lot of use out of it. It does pretty much what it says it does, no surprise, but a few improvements since the last one I had (for my Powershot S50): - size. Apparently the camera is smaller, so the house will be smaller, but still, I give credit to Canon for making the house smaller than needed, so you can still enjoy the relatively small size of purchasing the camera - Clarity. This is an improvement in both the case and the camera itself, but w / my old LCD monitor can be very difficult to see even in clear Caribbean waters. The plastic in this case seems a bit more trnaslucent, possibly due to the thinner overall size. The improved LCD SD 780IS (which is fantastic by the way, along w / the camera) also helps Anyway, it is much easier to see what is about to shoot. I could get some good pictures w / it. If I remember, I'll try to post some examples. - Flash diffuser. I recently took a photography course and learned a lot about lighting, including the benefits of a diffuser, so I was very happy to see that this house has one, did the old man did not. It's amazing how much difference it makes! All shots that require a flashlight looks natural, none of the harsh shadows that are defined earlier. This can be the difference between a beautiful shot off and. Also, keep in mind that this camera body is also well above the water as well, for times when you take it to the beach and just want to protect your camera - I took lots of pictures of the earth where the diffuser really helped the flash. It does everything a point and digital camera should be and more. For me, a compact should be small and light so that it can easily go with me everywhere. It is the power of each point and shoot camera actually. It should be with you in your daily life and then get shots that you could not get with other larger cameras, or too large, or too comfortable to carry with you. Ethics is instantaneous. I am a professional photographer and I carry this pocket camera with me everywhere because I can not wear my pro SLR with me all the time and not feel like a weight on my shoulder. You may be tempted to buy the Canon SD500 is more efficient and a little 'older, because it has the same megapixel rating is very similar. However, there are some good improvements to the SD550:-larger LCD screen (very nice), better movie mode (SD500 sets an annoying hissing / whining sound in the film), a better battery door latch design, better internal software (actually the display shows the words and symbols as "continuous mode" "single shot", "Macro" and not just the symbols just a comment about Color CASE:. The SD550 comes in both silver (called the Gray box) or Champagne Gold, please contact the seller what color they are stock or have a choice. From Diljit I would begin by saying that Canon makes exceptional digital cameras, the best in the market right now. This is because they have always used high quality components since they began manufacturing digital cameras. This is no exception. Now that I sold a Canon, you should choose? First, see if you really need a SDxxx camera, or would be better with a better camera is not ultra. SDxxx series offers several advantages over less portable models:-Beautiful, sleek design and metallic body will wow anyone who sees it. -Beautiful-2-inch LCD The excellent Dig! C 2 processor (other Canons only dig! C 1)-Much better than the movie mode and the previous Canons-Small light, easy pocket-ability, on the other hand, there are some significant drawbacks due to the components Canon had to use The camera is so small:-Few manual controls, the pictures are not as sharp as those of similar non ultraportable cameras. -The flash is very close to the lens (lots of red-eye problems)-More purple border problems than other Canon-Proprietary batteries are expensive to replace-The LCD is very fragile. If you do not need the ultra portability and flashy looks of the SD cameras, a slightly larger camera with more features may be right for you, I suggest that the Canon A510 or A520 if you do not need an SD model. If you still want an SD model, which should you choose? The 3.2MP SD200 to SD300 4-MP, the SD400 with 5mp, or the SD500 at a whopping 7.1MP? Your first instinct may be that the more megapixels the better. Today, however megapixel ratings are similar GHz rating of the computer world: Used to refer to many things, but does not mean that much. More megapixels does not mean better picture. That means a larger image for printing. If you do not need large prints, they just do not more megapixels. In fact, the SD200 3.2MP enough for all who intend to print images larger than a sheet of 8.5x11 paper. Finally, I decided to wait for this unit instead of buying the S90 because of the characteristics of the video and low light capabilities. But to be fair with some minor details, and the inability of the Amazon to allow users to give partial stars (eg 4.75 stars), I'll have to settle for 4 stars. Cosmetics PROS: Unlike some of the SD and Elph cameras in the past, looks solid. Canon, better still, to some extent, the battery weak feeling. It is a great improvement over the last fragile plastic doors on previous models. The large 3 "x 1" screen is strong and beautiful and gives an accurate description of what the camera captured. Switch between full program is fully automatic and simple slide button on top of the camera that allows a beginner to advanced user and both have their options with ease. This also prevents the accidental changes that can occur with the establishment of the wheels or push buttons. Cosmetic Disadvantages: lens cover seems a bit too loose, at least in my particular camera, it rattles and moves easily when handling the camera after the power is off and the door is closed.
